My journey so far...
My radio broadcasting journey , it all started at the tender age of 2 years. I remember being that child that was the first one up when I heard a catchy song and I was incredibly fond of dancing; the overdosing of household Bollywood consumption fuelled this and from then on I was hooked!
‘Dancing to the new Madhuri Dixit tracks and copying the moves to perfection’
I have amazing memories of watching the latest movies at our local Piccadilly Cinema in Birmingham where you could catch a movie with just the loose change in your pocket – those were the days! I distinctly remember watching DDLJ 8 times over, now that is a film I’ll never tire of!
It was always an exciting time when I would be going to the local cassette shop with my siblings to buy the brand new Bollywood albums, excited to get home and take off the plastic and to sit there for hours listening to the same album over and over without getting tired of it!
As I grew up, I began to have a taste for a creative career; now this could mean many things from art to drama to advertising to music. During Primary School, I auditioned for the role of the Sita in the famous Rama and Sita production; I practiced for days on end, the excitement was off the charts!
I finally entered that chapter of my life where I went off to university and this creative streak was firmly built in me; I went on to pursue a degree in Advertising with Public Relations after having completed a diploma in Moving Image. This degree opened the doors to a world of marketing and it was the exact creative career I had always wanted to embark upon.
During all this, I decided to undertake a year of travelling where I taught English in Spain. Having had this time away from my homely activities and routine tasks, I was able to reflect on my life, my inspirations and my journey of all things music. This feeling made me feel so content and warm inside; I wanted to share this feeling and passion with the world!
It was the year 2014 where I made the move to contact Radio XL, I didn’t think anything of it at the time and kept an open mind, soon after the manager of Radio XL contacted me via email and wanted me to come into the studios for a voice test. I felt all kinds of excitement after having read this email and was raring to go! Even reflecting back at this moment is giving me goose-bumps!
Three years later and 2000 shows on, I have now been recognised for my efforts by being nominated as Upcoming Radio Presenter of the Year (2016 & 2017)for the Pakistani Music and Media Awards.
I am pleased to announce that I received the honour of 'Best Radio Presenter 2018' at the Oracle Awards 2018.
