My Radio Broadcasting Journey
It all began at the tender age of two. Even as a toddler, I was the first to leap up at the sound of a catchy song, dancing with joy. Growing up in a household brimming with Bollywood, my love for music and movement flourished. I was mesmerized by Madhuri Dixit’s iconic moves and took pride in imitating them to perfection.
I have fond memories of watching Bollywood films at Birmingham’s Piccadilly Cinema, where the magic of cinema was accessible for just a few coins. Some experiences stay etched forever, like watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge eight times—an evergreen classic I could watch on repeat.
Equally thrilling was the ritual of visiting the local cassette shop with my siblings, eager to unwrap the latest Bollywood album. I’d sit for hours, playing songs on repeat, completely captivated by their melodies.
As I grew, this love for music and creativity led me to explore artistic endeavors in school. One of my most cherished childhood moments was preparing for the role of Sita in a school production of Rama and Sita. I practiced tirelessly, energized by the joy of performing.
This creative streak carried into adulthood. I pursued a diploma in Moving Image, followed by a degree in Advertising with Public Relations, where I discovered my passion for marketing—a field that blended creativity and communication.
Taking a break from academia, I embarked on a transformative journey teaching English in Spain. This year abroad gave me the space to reflect on my love for music, my inspirations, and my dreams. It was during this time that I realized I wanted to share my passion for music with the world.
In 2014, I reached out to Radio XL with an open mind and a heart full of hope. To my surprise, I was invited for a voice test, a moment that still gives me goosebumps when I think about it. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey.
Three years and over 2,000 shows later, my efforts bore fruit. I was honored to be nominated for Upcoming Radio Presenter of the Year at the Pakistani Music and Media Awards in both 2016 and 2017. Then, in 2018, I was humbled to receive the title of Best Radio Presenter at the Oracle Awards.
